36 mile ride – This Sunday 27th November

Please come and join us for 30-ish miles on Sunday. As ever the pace will be steady and no-one will be left behind. Focus is on:

a) Having a great ride in the beautiful Hampshire countryside,

b) Confidence building for those new to riding on the road in a group and

c) to encourage those who’ve not been riding much lately to come out and get back into the spin of things.

Please join us at the first on left lower car park, Basingstoke Aquadrome at 09:15 for a 09:30 start.

Please bring suitable spares, clothing, food and drink. I am not planning a cafe stop this week.

Please let me know if you intend to join us, and we’ll look out for you.

Swindon 10K – 20th November 2011

Myself (Chris) and Margaret set off in the fog to the outskirts of Swindon this morning. We arrived in slightly clearer but cold conditions ready for an 11am start.

The course was two laps of a relatively flat course, although there were some gentle long drags.

It had warmed up by the start and there seemed to be a fair number of young, fit racing-snake types at the front.

Margaret and I had agreed to run at our own paces, I would have been really pleased with somewhere around 50 mins and Margaret was aiming for about an hour.

A steady first k passed, which was probably a good idea and then I got settled into a decent rhythm. 5k came in 25.20 just after which I learned you cannot really eat jelly babies whilst running. On the second lap I tried to keep the same pace for the first half and see what I had left for the last 2.5k. After a final sprint (?) for the line I finished in 50.18, the best of the three 10ks I have ever run.

I then went to see Margaret finish and she turned up fairly soon after. She finished in 54.46, which was good enough to win the veteran ladies over-65 (sorry Mags) class and get a bottle of bubbly.

A cup of tea and a bacon buttie before we drove back was very welcome.

A great event and course – the winner did it in 32.11.

20th November – 60 miles, Winchester Cathedral Cafe.

Please join us for a round trip of about 60 miles to the Winchester Cathedral Refectory, who are expecting to welcome us around mid-morning.

Meet 09:15 for a 09:30 start from Basingstoke Aquadrome, first on the left lower car park. The ride is intended for those with a moderate cycling fitness, (able to achieve 60 miles) the ride is NOT a race and no one will get dropped.

Both new members and prospective new members welcome. We recommend you have third party insurance for the benefit of all those around you. Your ride leader will be Daryl.

Please ensure you have money, spare tubes / tools and adequate clothing for the time of year. We look forward to welcoming you!

Hampshire Sunday’s

Here’s the start photo of this mornings ride in and around sunny Hampshire. We did around 33 miles through some very scenic parts of the county with stopping to consult the laminated map only three or four times! :) I should have got a photo of that.. next time.

Social 30-35 mile ride Sunday 13th November

Please come and join us for 30-35 miles on Sunday. As ever the pace will be steady and no-one will be left behind. Focus is on a) having a lovely ride in the beautiful Hampshire countryside b) confidence building for those new to riding on the road in a group and c) to encourage those who’ve not been riding much lately to come out and get back into the spin of things.

To maximise the amount of time we spend on country lanes rather than in town, the start location will be the Holiday Inn car park, on the start of the Alton road. Some of you may be able to guess at the route from here. I can’t promise there won’t be the odd hill!

Meet time will be 10am, leaving shortly after. Please let me know if you intend to join us.
